Skábmagovat – Indigenous Film Festival gets a new producer duo

The association the Friends of Sámi Art has chosen Taru Arrela as the new producer of the Skábmagovat Film Festival. In addition, the festival will employ Minna Lipponen as assistant producer from the beginning of November.

The other main contributors of the festival organization are, as before, Artistic Director Jorma Lehtola, the real spirit of the event, and Executive Director Sunna Nousuniemi.

Skábmagovat will celebrate its 20th anniversary in Inari, Finland, 24–27 January 2019, spotlighting the cinema of Arctic indigenous peoples during its jubilee year. The festival will offer the audience films from, for example, the Sakha Republic in Russia, Greenland, Alaska and, of course, Sápmi, the Land of the Sámi. This year, the festival especially wants to spotlight the solidarity and the cultural connections of Arctic indigenous peoples and universal love.

In addition to film shows, the festival will provide a range of side events, such as the Skábmagovat Festival Club that will be arranged for the first time; it will take place both on Friday and Saturday night at the Cultural Centre Sajos. At the Club, the festival audience will be able to watch video art and listen to a varied programme of live music.
