Morningstar Derosier

Morningstar Derosier is a dedicated filmmaker and cinematographer whose work highlights Indigenous stories and traditions. She began her career in filmmaking with a focus on capturing the essence of Indigenous life and has built a notable portfolio of achievements. In 2017, Morningstar was a finalist in the international Terry George Human Rights Filmmaking Challenge with her short film KWE. Her career took off in 2018 when she won the Best Youth Work award at ImagineNATIVE for her short film A World of Our Own. That same year, she triumphed in the 72-hour filmmaking challenge at the Maoriland Film Festival with the short film Awa. Continuing to build on her success, Morningstar produced the award-winning short film Namid for Reel Canada in 2021. In 2022, she served as the cinematographer for Braided Together, which was nominated for Outstanding Short Film at the Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards. Her work as a cinematographer further shone through in the 2024 feature documentary Singing Back the Buffalo, which was an Audience Favourite at Hot Docs. With a career marked by artistic excellence and community commitment, Morningstar Derosier continues to inspire through her creative storytelling and dedication to cultural stewardship.”
