Director/Screenwriter: Suvi West
Language: North Sámi, Finnish, subt. English
The State of Finland has launched a truth and reconciliation process that aims at mapping the historical wrongdoings the Sámi have gone through. The State still regulates, for example, mining and fishing rights in the north and even the definition of who are Sámi – despite the observations and recommendations of the UN Human Rights Committee. The documentary follows the hearings of the truth and reconciliation process, showing painful experiences of the Sámi in recent history and documenting a silent, non-violent struggle of the people for their right to their culture. DIRECTOR SUVI WEST ATTENDS THE SHOW.
