Truth and reconciliation processes have been launched both among the Sámi and the indigenous peoples of Alaska. The processes between the Sámi and the states differ from each other. The Alaskan process is administered by the indigenous nations themselves. They have invited such actors as the state, the provinces and territories and other players who have admitted having caused suffering to the indigenous peoples to participate in the process. The purpose of the process is to help people heal and deal with traumatic experiences and increase the understanding of the main population with the hope of correcting the situation.
