Paavvâl Taannâl Tiina, Tiina Sanila-Aikio, 40, belongs to the Skolt Sámi generation who were able to study their native language at school. She has been active in Sámi youth organisations, engaged in revitalising the language, sat in the Sámi Parliament and defended her family’s livelihood, reindeer herding. Tiina believes strongly in her nation’s future despite the fact that the language and Skolt Sámi culture are fighting for their existence. The documentary follows Tiina from 2005 until today. As a mother Tiina thinks all of the linguistic possibilities, which she had planned for her child, but for which she didn’t have time or steam because of her political activities.
