The Sámi of Paččjokk took care of their ancient region in harmony with nature until Norway, Russia and Finland split it up. Mining and power plants changed the landscape, and the language and culture all but disappeared in Norway. In the film, Venke Dørmænen wants to learn to sew a Skolt Sámi woman’s hat, the kind worn by her grandmother in an old photograph. It is her link to the threatened culture. Matleena Fofonoff from Finland becomes her mentor.
