It is 1893. Molly Johnson, heavily pregnant, is left alone with her four children in a shoddy hut on the Australian Snowy Mountains while her husband is away droving sheep. A woman has to be hardened and brave to ensure that her family survives both the forces of nature and intruders in the bare region where law is seldom enforced. Leah Purcell’s strong debut film is the first feature film directed and screenwritten by an Aboriginal woman in Australia; the director also has the starring role in the film.
