Carrie “Moth” Dada

Carrie Dada (preferred name Moth), is a 26 year old Cherokee filmmaker based in California.
With a BFA in Cinematic Arts from the Institute of American Indian Arts and an MFA in
Television, Film, & Media from San Diego State Univeristy, Moth has built a stong foundation in
indigenous filmmaking.

Her work has been screened at festivals in multiple parts of the world, including the Indigenous
North America Film Festival in Stuttgart, Germany, the Santa Fe Film Festival in New Mexico,
and the California American Indian & Indigenous Film Festival. This year, Moth attended an
artist residency at Chateau Orquevaux in France, where she created her latest short film, “100
Tiny Heartbreaks.” In this solo project, she challenged herself to take on every role, including
shooting, acting, and editing with no other crew. The result created a visually stunning film that
explores themes of love, loss, and modern relationships through a surreal, poetic lens.

You can view the world premiere of this short piece at Skábmagovat Indigenous Peoples’ Film
Festival 2025, and indulge in a beautiful and eerie fantasy crafted by Moth.
